  1. I can't find an apprenticeship. What do I do?

    It is very important that you fill your profile out as completely and accurately as possible to give potential employers all the information they need to hire you. The Missouri Apprentice Connect system recommends apprenticeships for consideration from keyword matches in your profile and apprenticeship postings.

    If you do not have a resume, schedule an appointment with the local Missouri Job Center to assist in creating one.

    Be sure to select skills that you have in the "Skills" portion of your profile. Missouri Apprentice Connect uses the skills you select to match you with apprenticeships. Organizations with apprenticeships that fit your skills might be matched to you. If they are interested, they may reach out and invite you to apply!

    If you still cannot find an apprenticeship that fits your needs, don't give up! Keep checking Missouri Apprentice Connect because new positions are frequently added. Still not having luck? Contact us at MOApprentice@mochamber.com, and we will be more than happy to assist you.

  2. What does β€œContinuous Recruiting” mean in the BEGINS: box in apprenticeship description summary?

    If the BEGINS: box states "Continuously Recruiting", this means the organization sponsoring the Registered Apprenticeship is continously recruiting apprentices and have no set start date for the apprenticeship.  The sponsor will start a new cohort (class) when they recruit enough apprentices to justify the start of a new group.

  3. What do I do if I find an apprenticeship or another job?

    Login to Missouri Apprentice Connect and update your profile. Edit your profile by clicking "Manage Your Profile" located in the tan box on the right side of your Workspace listed under "Dashboard Links." Change the "Status" data field on your profile to "Hired."

  4. What is the difference between and apprenticeship and internship?

    Apprenticeships are full-time employment combined with on-the-job learning and related classroom instruction. 

    Internships are planned, structured learning experiences within a workplace that exist for a limited period of time.  Some internships are paid and some are unpaid.  All Registered Apprenticeships are paid and result in a USDOL credential.

  5. Who pays for an apprenticeship?

    Registered Apprenticeships are designed for the employer to invest in the training of the apprentice.  There are many resources that can be tapped to fund the cost of apprenticeship training.  Traditionally apprentices should exit an apprenticeship program with no debt.

  6. What is the earliest age that an individual can start as an apprentice?

    Apprentices can begin as early as 16 years old and must be pursuit of their high school diploma or equivalent.  All workers under the age of 18 must obtain a work permit and the Registered Apprenticeship sponsor must ensure the program conforms to all federal and state child labor laws.  Some exemptions to the child labor laws exist that allow apprentices to engage in necessary training.  Click here for more information. 

  7. What occupations are apprenticeable?

    The US Department of Labor (USDOL) recognizes over 1,300 occupations as apprenticeable.  These occupations cross over a variety of industries. 

  8. What does an apprentice receive upon completion of an apprenticeship program?

    After completion of your apprenticeship program, you will earn a nationally-recognized credential from the U.S. Department of Labor that is portable and stackable. This means that other employers in that industry will recognize its value and that you can build on its foundation to further your knowledge and education.

  9. How often are new apprenticeships posted?

    New apprenticeships are frequently added, so it's a good idea to check the site often.

    You can stay on top of opportunities by opting in to receive text message alerts whenever new apprenticeships are added to your saved searches. Make sure your number is saved to your profile, click "Opt In," then complete and save an apprenticeship search. See question #19 for instructions.

    You will receive a maximum of one text per day. You can opt out of the text message alerts at any time by texting "Stop."

  10. How do I search for an apprenticeship?

    1. Login to your account.  Note:  If you have required fields that need be to completed, you will be asked to finish your profile before you can go to your Workspace. 
    2. Complete the "Advanced Apprenticeship Search" on the right side of your Workspace. Select and enter search criteria of your choosing - you do not need to fill out all of the search criteria.
    3. Scroll through the lists to find a position you are interested in.
    4. To view the position description, simply click on the apprenticeship title. You may also learn more about the organization by clicking on the organization's website link.
    5. If you would like to save your search, click "Save This Search" in the upper right-hand corner of the search results page and enter a name for the search.
    6. After saving your search, the search name will be listed under "Saved Searches" in your Apprentice Workspace.

  11. What is Missouri Apprentice Connect' s confidentiality policy?

    Information submitted to Missouri Apprentice Connect will be used for the purpose of connecting organizations and apprentices with high-quality apprenticeship experiences. View our Privacy Policy.

  12. Can I upload samples of my work?

    Yes. You can do this by clicking "Manage Your Profile" and then the "Resume" tab. At the bottom of the tab, there is an option to upload various files. You can upload an unlimited number of files to showcase your work. Be sure to select the proper file type (cover letter, resume, portfolio piece or other) from the dropdown menu when you upload.

  13. Can I put a link to my personal web site on my profile?

    Yes. You can enter your personal web page URL in your profile. You may also link to your online portfolio or professional social media sites, such as LinkedIn.

  14. Can I change my information?

    Yes. You can change your information at any time. Edit your profile by clicking "Manage Your Profile" located in the tan box on the right side of your Workspace under "Dashboard Links."

  15. How do I register for a free Missouri Apprentice Connect account?

    On the home page click "Login/Register" in the top section of your screen. You will be required to select an account type and should select "Apprentice." Fill in the rest of the fields and click "Create User."

  16. I applied for an apprenticeship. When do I hear back from the employer?

    A lot of organizations recruit continously so there may be a delay while they wait for a certain number of applicants to start interviews. The process can take weeks, so be patient. Continue to apply to other apprenticeships while you wait.

    If you haven't heard anything in a couple weeks, you may contact the employer and politely ask for an update.

    If the outcome isn't what you were hoping for, don't give up. Keep searching for and applying for apprenticeship openings on Missouri Apprentice Connect.

  17. Can employers contact me?

    Yes. Employers can either contact you by phone or email if you entered this information in your profile. They can also contact you through our internal messaging system.

    Make a point to check your email often, including your junk and spam folders.

  18. How do I apply to an Apprenticeship?

    Before applying, make sure your profile is as complete and accurate as possible to give potential employers all the information they need to hire you.

    1. Click "Learn More" located under the apprenticeship description.
    2. Click "Apply For This Apprenticeship" located in either the tan box to the right of the posting or at the bottom of the apprenticeship posting. Note: The link may take you directly to the organizatoin's website where they want you to apply.
    3. If applying within apprentice connect, write or paste a cover letter to the organization you are applying to in the box provided.
    4. Upload a unique resume or select one of the resumes you've uploaded to your apprentice profile.
    5. Click "Apply For This Apprenticeship" again to submit.                                                                                                                     

    Remember the resume(s) you've uploaded to your profile will be visible to employers when you apply.

    If the organization is interested, they will be in contact.

  19. Where are the apprenticeships located?

    Missouri Apprentice Connect offers apprenticeship opportunities throughout the state of Missouri. You may search by county or region. While some companies may have out of state locations, only apprenticeships located in Missouri will be approved for posting on Missouri Apprentice Connect.

  20. How does Missouri Apprentice Connect ensure quality apprenticeship opportunities?

    Missouri Apprentice Connect staff members review all new organizational registrations in order to ensure that the employer, training provider, or apprenticeship partner are legitimate organizations with the potential to offer or sponsor apprenticeships within the state of Missouri. Only apprenticeships registered with the US Department of Labor are currentlly listed on Missouri Apprentice Connect.

    As with any job or apprenticeship opportunity, you are encouraged to thoroughly investigate the organization and to ask questions to ensure that the apprenticeship for which you are applying is a good fit. It is also recommended that you have a good knowledge of the apprenticeship requirements and the experience desired prior to accepting an apprenticeship offer to ensure you accept the opportunity most in line with your career goals.

  21. How does the system work?

    Missouri Apprentice Connect is a high-tech and high-touch system for apprentices seeking apprenticeships in Missouri. The high-tech portion allows you to enter online resumes, cover letters and skills specific to the apprenticeships you are seeking. Dependent on the organization's preference, you may apply to apprenticeships directly on the site or on the organization's website. 

    Employers and training providers can also contact you through the system, if your skills and qualificatons fit their requirements.

  22. Can apprentices receive credentials or credit for their apprenticeships?

    Every Registered Apprenticeship graduate receives a nationally recognized credential for mastering required skills and demonstrating required knowledge to be fully proficient in the specific Registered Apprenticeship occupation.

    Apprenticeship opportunities combine on-the-job training and job-related instruction, provided by apprenticeship training centers, technical schools, community colleges, and other educational institutions. Apprenticeship sponsors often work directly with two- and four-year colleges to structure the program so apprentices may earn college credits. The apprenticeship openings will list the number of credits received for completing the apprenticeship, if available.

  23. Are the apprenticeships paid?

    At this time, all apprenticeships listed on Missouri Apprentice Connect are required to be registered with the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship and must be paid opportunities. Apprentices must receive an increase in pay as their skills and knowledge increase - progressive wage increases throughout the apprenticeship as skill benchmarks are met by apprentices.

    Pre-apprenticeship opportunities are offered around the state.  A pre-apprenticeship can help prepare an apprentice for a full-time Registered Apprenticeship.  Typically, a pre-apprenticeship is not paid.  Visit the Missouri Job Center nearest you or contact apprenticeship@dhewd.mo.gov for more information.

  24. How much does it cost to use Missouri Apprentice Connect?

    All of Missouri Apprentice Connect services are free for everyone. You can search and apply to an unlimited number of apprenticeships at no cost.

  25. What happens if I don't use Missouri Apprentice Connect after I created an account?

    After six months of inactivity, your account becomes inactive. You can reactivate your account simply by logging in.

  26. I lost my password. How may I retrieve it?

    On the home page, click "Login/Register" in the upper section of your screen. Underneath the "LOG IN" button, click "Forgot Password?" and enter your email or username. You will be sent an email with instructions to change your password.

  27. How do I change my password?

    Sign in to your account. Click "EDIT ACCOUNT" in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. After clicking the link, select "Change Password" underneath the "UPDATE ACCOUNT" button.
