Program Description

Certified Medical Assistants perform combinations of administrative and clinical duties as part of a care team under the direction of a primary care provider. Certified Medical Assistants work under a variety of job descriptions and in different settings, such as hospitals, community health clinics, and physician offices.

These competency-based standards consist of on-the-job learning (OJL) and related technical instruction (RTI). Apprentices will receive training in the various work experiences listed below (customized to the needs of specific employers and specific care settings). The order in which the apprentice learns will be determined by the flow of work in the job, and will not necessarily be in the order listed. The apprentice will learn and practice the competencies working with a mentor on the work site.

Requirements or Restrictions

Applicants must be employed by Freeman Health System prior to becoming an apprentice.

Length of Program

The term of the apprenticeship shall be the satisfactory completion and demonstration of the Work Processes. A recommended 208 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) and 100 hours of Lab/Clinical Instruction in addition to the minimum 2.080 hours of on-the-job training. The RTI is offered in 16 week formats through Crowder College.
