This industry is comprised of establishments arranged on a continuum from those which provide health care only, through those which provide both health care and social assistance, to those which provide social assistance only. This is due to the difficulty frequently incurred when trying to distinguish the boundaries between these two activities. Services provided in this industry are delivered by trained professionals, such as health practitioners and social workers. Excluded from this industry are recreational fitness classes and non-medical diet and weight reducing centers. While they may be viewed as health services, they are not typically delivered by health practitioners. Examples include:

  • Offices of doctors, dentists, optometrists, chiropractors and other health care professionals
  • Family Planning Centers
  • Medical Laboratories
  • Ambulance Services
  • Services for the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities
  • Community Food Services
  • Child Day Care Services
