Program Description

Apprentices will learn to operate, maintain and troubleshoot industrial and domestic sewing machines relating to the production of cut and sewn products.  Apprentices will learn to operate during training a variety of equipment in cluding but not limited to: Industrial Straight Needle, Serger, Blind Hemmer, and Coverstitch, Domestic Basic Sewing Machine and Serger.  Apprentices will be exposed to the manufacturing process, its techniques and systems with exposure to various production roles from start to completion and quality control.  Will assist with product production from initial concept to measuring and cutting to completion.  Apprentices will gain basic knowledge and work with a variety of fabrics, tools and equipment.  During training the apprentice will be provided with training on seams, finishing, hemming pressing and entry level zipper/closures.  A portofolio of samples is required to complete apprenticeship.   Training will be provided to set up an ideal working environment using ergonomic principals.  Teamwork with emphasis on honest, diversity and equal opportunity is the goal.

Requirements or Restrictions

All applicants will meet the following minumum qualifications

  1. Minimum age of not less than 16 year of age.  All persons between 16 - 18 will be required to have parental/guardian persmission.
  2. Physically must be able to perform the essential functions of this occupaion with/without reasonable accommondations and with posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.
  3. Basic understanding of the English language

Length of Program

Every apprentice will be required to participate in Related Instruction in technical subject related to the occupation.  Apprentice length of the program will be NO less than 2 year.  This length of time will encompus related training of approximately 30 weeks and a PAID On the Job Apprenticeship placement with local partnering employers.  To earn a Certification from the US DOL you must complete a minmum of 2000 hours.
