This industry includes establishments involved in the mechanical, physical or chemical transformation of materials, substances or components into new products. This includes the assembly of component parts into manufactured products (except when such assembly is appropriately classified as Construction).

Establishments in the manufacturing industry may be plants, factories, or mills, which typically utilize power-driven machines and materials-handling equipment. They may also be those involved in the sale of products made on the same premises from which they are sold, such as bakeries and candy stores. Manufacturing establishments may process materials or contract with outside establishments to process the materials for them.
