Program Description

The apprentice position will consist of a two and a half year training program in which you will learn all aspects of machinery and building maintenance through on the job training as well as online and classroom training.  All hours are paid.  Upon completion of the apprenticeship you will earn a transferrable,  highly marketable credential issued by the Department of Labor,  as well as 40 credit hours towards an associates degree in skilled trades.  Porta-King offers continuing education and additional benefits/paid tuition. 

Ideal candidates will exhibit good work ethic,  attendance and willingness to learn a wide variety of skills pertinent to the maintenance profession. 

Requirements or Restrictions

 Minimum qualifications will include:  

  • Demonstrated ability to read a tape measure
  • Ability to use various hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to safely lift up to 20 lbs.  on a consistent basis and ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.  on an occasional basis
  • Ability to work at heights up to 10’,
  • Ability to read and write using basic English skills and ability to perform basic math calculations
  • Basic carpentry skills preferred
  • Some light electrical and plumbing skills or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of machines and tools,  including methods to diagnose issues and make repairs as well as perform routine maintenance
  • Knowledge of methods,  materials and tools used in the construction industry
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Effective communication skills,
  • Strong conviction to adhere to safety standards
  • At least 18 years old, 
  • And able to pass all pre-employment background screenings including a drug test
  • Must be a high school graduate or have achieved a GED/HiSet.
